چکیده

The changes in the mechanical properties and microstructure of nanocrystalline Cu-Zn alloys deformed by cryorolling during low temperature annealing and the post-process deformation were studied. The deformed Cu-Zn alloys exhibited uncommon anneal hardening and deformation softening behaviors. The degree of anneal hardening and deformation softening increased with the addition of the solute atoms. X-ray diffraction analysis and transmission electron microscopy were employed to reveal the microstructure of the samples in different states. The annealing hardening effect is ascribed to the contribution of solute segregation to dislocation and short range ordering. [doi:10.2320/matertrans.MG201618]

Solid solution strengthening and softening due to collective nanocrystalline deformation physics

Solid solution effects on the strength of the finest nanocrystalline grain sizes are studied with molecular dynamics simulations of different Cu-based alloys. We find evidence of both solid solution strengthening and softening, with trends in strength controlled by how alloying affects the elastic modulus of the material. This behavior is consistent with a shift to collective grain boundary def...

Effect of triple junctions on deformation twinning in a nanostructured Cu–Zn alloy: A statistical study using transmission Kikuchi diffraction

Scanning electron microscopy transmission Kikuchi diffraction is able to identify twins in nanocrystalline material, regardless of their crystallographic orientation. In this study, it was employed to characterize deformation twins in Cu/10 wt % Zn processed by high-pressure torsion. It was found that in 83% of grains containing twins, at least one twin intersects with a triple junction. This s...

Precipitation hardening in a dental low-gold alloy.

Age-hardening characteristics in a dental low-gold alloy composed of 40.0 wt% Au-35.0 wt% Ag-7.9 wt% Pd-7.0 wt% Cu-5.0 wt% In-3.5 wt% Zn-1.5 wt% Sn, were investigated by means of the hardness test, XRD study, SEM observations and EPMA. The following results were obtained. The age-hardening was characterized by a precipitation of Cu-rich alpha2 phase in the a phase. The softening that occurred f...

Hot Nanoindentation of Nanocrystalline Ni-W Alloys

High temperature nanoindentation experiments are conducted to assess the activation enthalpy for deformation of nanocrystalline Ni-W alloys, for grain sizes between 3 and 80 nm. Thermal softening becomes less pronounced at finer grain sizes, and the activation enthalpy has an apparent inflection at a grain size near ~10-20 nm, in the vicinity the Hall-Petch breakdown. This inflection is related...

Microstructural Evolution and Dynamic Softening Mechanisms of Al-Zn-Mg-Cu Alloy during Hot Compressive Deformation

The hot deformation behavior and microstructural evolution of an Al-Zn-Mg-Cu (7150) alloy was studied during hot compression at various temperatures (300 to 450 °C) and strain rates (0.001 to 10 s-1). A decline ratio map of flow stresses was proposed and divided into five deformation domains, in which the flow stress behavior was correlated with different microstructures and dynamic softening m...
